How to be Cyber Savvy in the Workplace with KnowBe4
ASL’s Cyber Security and Your People webinar is an introductory workshop highlighting the importance of training your employees to be cyber-savvy. The Webinar was run by Megan Kane from KnowBe4 and Hannah Bryan, ASL’s Operations Manager. This interactive session aimed to highlight how with training, employees can help to protect a business’s assets from cyber criminals.
1. Why do employees need Cyber Training?
Cybercrime is moving quickly. A few years ago, they used to specialise in identity theft, but now they take over your organisation’s network, hack into your bank accounts, and steal tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds. Every business is at risk.
2. What is the biggest risk to businesses when it comes to Cybercrime?
Phishing is a form of social engineering; individuals target businesses through email. It is the biggest single risk and most used form of Social Engineering. 84% of all Cybercrime attacks in the UK in the past 12 months have come through Phishing.
3. What common red flags can we look for in phishing emails?
- Discrepancies in email domains
- Use phrases driving urgency, i.e. “Urgent Invoice”, “Action Today”.
- Spelling mistakes and outdated or off-brand versions of logos.
- Attacks can come from “The CEO” – vigilance is key. If an email comes into the business that looks like it is from an internal employee but is requesting something they ordinarily wouldn’t, then it is always worth querying.
4. What are the top 3 things we must consider when strengthening our Human Firewall?
- Regular Cyber Security training (monthly, quarterly)
- Testing your team’s vigilance through regular social engineering exercises
- Having up-to-date policies and procedures to safeguard the business when risks are identified.
